Overview:
A Financial Coach empowers individuals and families to take control of their finances and build long-term financial well-being. This role focuses on education, accountability, and goal-setting—not product sales—helping clients improve their money habits, reduce financial stress, and make confident financial decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct one-on-one or group financial coaching sessions to help clients clarify their financial goals and values.
- Analyze clients’ current financial situations and assist them in developing personalized spending plans, savings strategies, and debt reduction plans.
- Educate clients on core financial topics such as budgeting, credit, debt management, saving, investing basics, insurance concepts, and long-term planning.
- Track client progress, provide encouragement, and maintain accountability through regularly scheduled check-ins.
- Identify behavioral patterns and mindset barriers that impact financial decision-making, providing guidance and support toward lasting habit change.
- Refer clients to licensed financial professionals, tax advisors, legal advisors, or mental-health professionals when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records of client sessions and progress while protecting personal and financial confidentiality.
- Keep current with financial education trends, tools, and best practices.
- (If applicable) Present financial literacy workshops, webinars, and community education events.
Qualifications: (Required)
- Strong understanding of personal finance concepts (budgeting, credit, debt management, saving, retirement basics).
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or Finance and 3 years in the financial services workforce.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to teach concepts clearly using non-judgmental, supportive, empowering language.
- Strong organizational skills and confidentiality standards.
Preferred:
- Experience in coaching, counseling, financial services, education, or social services.
- Certification such as AFC®, CFP®, FFC®, CFEI®, or other financial coaching/financial counseling credentials.
- Experience using financial coaching tools, budgeting apps, or CRM software.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
Work Environment:
- In-person, virtual, or hybrid coaching format.
- May require occasional evenings or weekends based on client needs.
